I think there are a lot of things that people take for granted when they have a job, especially a "corporate" job. Employer sponsored medical insurance, 401k, life insurance, paid holidays and vacation... Not to mention the other advantages like email calendars to remind you to take your vitamins or whatever, and all-day internet access. It's easier to be organized when everything is right there at your fingertips.
Life changes when you don't have a job! I still have one for a short time, but I am learning ever so quickly just how weird it is going to be without one! I'm going to have to figure out a way to remember things like when my bills are due and when appts are and all that! Paper planners are SOO not as good as ones that have automatic pop-up reminders that ding and email you! ;)
Anyway, I am researching IRA's to rollover my 401k into, need to figure out medical insurance and stuff, will have ALL days "off" (or NO days off, whichever way you look at it), still- none paid... so weird! But even with all these worries and plans, I could not be happier that I will be home with my little girls. I am SO happy.
Mikey is having some difficulty finding a replacement for the job he has now, but he IS employed and that's better than not employed! We're praying that God will give him the perfect opportunity that will replace all these things I've lost from my job, that will provide for our little family and make Mikey happy in the process. Should the right offer come up, I would consider continuing to work, too...
Hmmm... as i was writing this, one of the bidders for the new contract called me. Apparently they want to keep the team together and in order to do that, they're willing to promote me. So I now need to fatten up my contract specialist part of my resume and play down the admin part. that'll be difficult. Not because I don't have the experience, just because it's hard to think that way. And I have to determine what to ask for salary-wise as a Contract Specialist, not an Admin Asst. i have till Monday to update my resume and come up with salary requirements. salary.com anyone? i asked my boss and she didn't know what to tell me to ask for. she did say she'd review my resume though.
That's not to say i don't want to stay home... but by golly, i will work if they offer me a good enough package! Gotta do what's good for the family and typically families like to eat and have medical care, right? Maybe Mikey could work in the evenings and I can do the day thing? Hmmm.... we'll see. because this is all based on speculation of IF they get awarded the contract. and the other company that contacted the team isn't doing it this way. so we shall see.
Very interesting.

This is awesome considering that not only do you now have a choice to go back to work, but that it seems that your hard work is finally being recognized which has to make you feel good.
It is also extraordinarily ironic, considering I've wanted to be promoted (and my boss has wanted to promote me) the whole time I've been here. And now it happens when I'm on my way out. hehe
Ok, Miss Glass Half Empty. Why do the weather people call it partly cloudy? Call it partly sunny!
You just need to pray - God will show you the way to go. I've sent you resume with the contract specialist focus so maybe that will help some. As a task lead I made $50K with IBA. for contract specialist it was $38K. I would do a 3.3% escalation per year because that's the normal govt escalation, so I would ask for about 7% above $38K (and you know I can't think without coffee, so pull out your calculator). Then your range of salary would be $2K lower to $2K higher than that figure. If they can match it and you still keep your benefits, then it's worth consideration.
You're so smart. Thanks for the resume, by the way. :)
Hmmm...well I make about 38k right now...hehe. your calcs would put me at asking for 40.6k, which is just a small raise for me. One contract spec. makes 47k now, and another guy makes even more than that. They are asking the new contractors for $55k and 60k, respectively. sooooo...... that would suggest that I should make somewhere between the 38k i make now and the 47k that a contract spec currently makes, i'd think? I don't know. thoughts?
Though...that is their IDEAL salary that they're requesting. Realistically though I think they can COUNT ON at least 50k.
Oh, I forgot to say.... with a new contract, from the past there, there was a escalation just for retention's sake. I would think that someone making $47K without an increase in responsibilities would expect to make 51 or 52. Realistically, I would probably ask for $45 - $48 for your new position, and expect $46.
Well, there are other things to consider other than salary. It's good that they want to keep you and increase your compensation. But is it worth it? Only you and Mike can answer that.
oh i know...but in a world where money pays for things and it doesn't grow on trees, you gotta get it somehow. So we're thinking and praying and we'll see how it goes. Proposals are due tomorrow morning and we've been contacted by 3 companies, so we'll see.
I just know what you had said you wanted for your family, and I know that all the money in the world won't fill that desire.
